Palaeolithic

Palaeolithic sites, like Ard Al Manakh 4 and Wadi Al Safa, in the north-western part of the area of study represent large workshops, where lithic implements were manufactured, and habitation sites, within an area where flint was widely available. They were in use during the Lower Palaeolithic, and above all in the Middle Palaeolithic.

Other sites, like Ain Al Rabout I, in one of the small valleys entering in the Bouqaia basin from the east, contain Upper Palaeolithic industries.
